Why not get creative and plan your own community event to celebrate this momentous literary landmark! Literature Wales has launched a new funding scheme offering financial support for events organised to celebrate Roald Dahl 100 in Wales in 2016. Click here to find out more about Invent your Event. Throw a party!
13th September 2016 will see the biggest ever global celebration of Roald Dahl’s birthday! To help you join in the worldwide celebrations for Roald Dahl Day, the Roald Dahl Literary Estate is producing a pack with everything you need to hold a party whether you’re celebrating at home, in school or out and about. Dress-up for Dahlicious Dress up Day
Dahlicious Dress Up Day is held in aid of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which makes life more marvellous for seriously ill children and their families through the support of Roald Dahl nurses and family grants. Every year schools, libraries and community groups across the UK host a Dahlicious Dress Up Day in September to mark Roald Dahl’s birthday. This year the charity has joined forces with the Roald Dahl 100 Party celebrations. So why not host a party this Roald Dahl Day (13 September) and raise money by dressing up as your favourite Roald Dahl character?
Write your own Roald Dahl-inspired story
The Dahlightful Stories Competition is an official Roald Dahl 100 Wales contest for children attending Primary School (Year 3 to 6) or Secondary School (Year 7 to 13) in Wales. Not only is this a challenging and fun activity, pupils could also see themselves as published writers! The winning stories and shortlist will be published in a book that will be on sale throughout Wales.
The competition is open for entries from 30 May to 20 July 2016. There is a competition pack available that includes a lesson plan and classroom activity sheets, which makes it easy and fun for your pupils to get started and take part.
This competition is open only to schools in Wales, so your school has a great chance of winning one of the following amazing prizes!
